Vancouver police have launched an investigation after Gastown’s iconic “steam” clock was damaged overnight Saturday.

In a statement, Vancouver police said that pictures of the damaged tourist attraction — at the corner of Cambie and Water streets — began circulating on social media on Saturday night.

The images showed shattered glass on the side of the clock.

On Sunday morning, the Vancouver Police Department’s Forensic Identification Unit was dispatched to gather evidence to see if someone intentionally damaged the clock.

Police are now gathering security video and looking for potential witnesses.
