Update Google Chrome on your phone now to avoid a serious security risk | #firefox | #chrome | #microsoftedge

Google Chrome is the most popular web browser in the world. Since it ships by default on all Android phones, chances are you’re already using it, even if your device has another browser like Samsung Internet.

A severe security risk has been identified that makes your device vulnerable. Fortunately, Google has patched it. All you need to do now is update Google Chrome on your Android device immediately.

Google hasn’t detailed the security flaw yet

Google has updated the Chrome browser to eliminate the threat posed by the CVE-2022-2294 security vulnerability. The company describes this as a “critical security fix.” It advises users to update the browser to the latest version as soon as possible. Google Chrome version 103.0.5060.71 is live now and available for download from the Play Store.

This vulnerability has already been exploited by bad actors. It was discovered when a member of the Avast Threat Intelligent Team reported it to Google last week. The company hasn’t revealed a lot of information about this vulnerability and that’s likely intentional. It would prefer most people to first update their browser so as to prevent further exploitation of the vulnerability.

Based on the limited information available so far, this vulnerability is associated with a heap overflaw flaw in the browser’s Web Real-Time Communication component. This is what enables the real-time communications capability of the browser. Bad actors can exploit this flaw to run potentially harmful denial-of-service (DoS) attacks.

This is the fourth zero-day exploit that has been patched in Chrome so far this year. Go ahead and update your Chrome browser right now to ensure that you’re protected against it.
