Australian home owners are going wild over a new cleaning hack using a very unlikely product.

Many social media users have revealed on Facebook how they’ve transformed their bathroom sinks and taps using tomato sauce.

The popular condiment is proving very useful in removing black scum and stubborn build-up from around the rim of the basin’s drain and the base of taps.

All you have to do is squirt a generous amount of the sauce around and over the areas and leave it to work its magic.

After a few hours, give the area a gentle wipe or scrub before rinsing away the sauce and scum.

Many Facebook users have been blown away by the results.

“Thank you to the lady who said to use tomato sauce to get rid of that stubborn scum that gets around the base of your taps,” wrote one home owner on the Mums Who Clean Facebook page.

“I have never been able to get rid of it since we purchased the house 12 years ago.

“I was sceptical but I thought, what the heck, the worst that can happen is I waste some tomato sauce.

“So I poured it on around the tap handle bases on my vanity. Covered the scum.

“Totally forgot about it for a few hours. I just wiped it off, no scrubbing at all.

“Scum is totally gone. I am totally amazed and I will share this tip with everyone.”

Another shared her amazing results, saying: “Thanks to whoever posted about the tomato sauce hack!

“I used ketchup and left on for 11 hours, scrubbed and then just rinsed off.”

Added one more: “I did the same today! I left mine for maybe three hours. Worked so well.”

Some claim it’s the vinegar and citric acid in tomato sauce that make it a useful cleaning agent.

“It’ll be the viscosity of the sauce too. It’s sticks better, and the acid in tomato will help,” said another.
