Theranos Executive Sunny Balwani’s Criminal-Fraud Trial Begins, Two Months After Founder’s Conviction | #phishing | #scams


SAN JOSE, Calif.—The criminal-fraud trial of former Theranos Inc. executive Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani gets under way Wednesday when government prosecutors make their opening salvo in the case, about two months after winning a fraud conviction against the company’s founder.

Mr. Balwani, the former top deputy at defunct blood-testing company Theranos and ex-boyfriend of Elizabeth Holmes, who started the company as a Stanford University dropout, faces a dozen counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud. Mr. Balwani has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
