Telstra taking registrations of interest for Telstra Energy | #cybersecurity | #cyberattack

Telstra is preparing its move into the energy market, planning a smart, price-conscious, carbon-neutral offering, asking customers to register expressions of interest to join.

Telstra guarantees to be the only Australian energy retailer that will always provide you with the best plan, instead of offering sweeteners to new customers while leaving existing customers on their higher-priced plans. Telstra also guarantees to be 100% carbon-neutral, offsetting the carbon emissions from energy use at no extra cost.

Telstra Energy customers will also accrue Telstra Plus points for paying their bill like they do with their telephony and Internet bills currently, with 10 points per dollar to redeem on devices and accessories.

Additionally, Telstra will provide smart insights into your daily energy usage through the My Telstra app when you have a smart meter connected.

Telstra says its Clean Energy Tracker will allow you to see how much renewable energy is in the grid during the day, allowing you to make informed decisions.

Telstra notes, as with all other energy retailers, you will still receive a mix of fossil fuels and renewable energy but says it differs from the rest because of its investments into renewable energy projects to feed more clean energy into the grid. In fact, the company says it has committed $900m to solar parks and wind farms since 2017, and its current portfolio generates enough renewable energy to displace the coal-fired power consumption of 150,000 homes.

Telstra states you can increase the amount of renewable energy you use by shifting the time when you draw power from the grid. Its proposed smart tools will help you to do this, and the telco states if enough Australian households shifted their energy usage this way, it can make a real change in the world.
