Lawmakers will examine the role of Facebook, TikTok, Twitter and other social media platforms in amplifying domestic extremism and violence online leading up to and following the Jan. 6 attacks on the U.S. Capitol.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a hearing exploring pathways to potentially hold social media platforms accountable for certain extremist content as part of a broader effort to combat the increasing number of domestic terrorism incidents in the U.S.
