State warns of increase in text, email scams related to unemployment benefits | #phishing | #scams

State officials are warning about an uptick of phishing scams related to unemployment insurance claims.

Accounts impersonating the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations have tried to scam residents via text messaging, emails and social media.

The messages tell recipients that funds have been added to their UI account. They are directed to click a link to receive the money.

The department says some of the websites look indistinguishable from the official state website. Victims input their login credentials and personal information, which can then be retrieved by the scammers.

The official Hawaii unemployment insurance benefits website is https://huiclaims.hawaii.gov/#/.

The website can also be found through the department’s main website at labor.hawaii.gov.

The department does not send text messages asking for personal information.
