Stamp out those fires with Firegirl: Hack ‘n Splash Rescue DX on PC and console | #computerhacking | #hacking

We first expected Firegirl to rock up with her firefighting skills at some point in 2021, but we guess she got busy dragging cats out of trees. But now she’s here, fully kitted out in deluxe form in Firegirl: Hack ‘n Splash Rescue DX on console and PC.

Having only previously made it as far as the PC land, Firegirl shows up for business on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch today, upgraded on PC as well, in a deluxe version of her roguelite indie firefighting franchise.

Available to purchase and download today, Firegirl: Hack ‘n Splash Rescue DX has seen the teams at Thunderful and Dejima totally overhaul and rebalance the original PC game, offering up new enemies and reworked environments, alongside a much more balanced difficulty curve, easier-to-handle upgrade tree and improvements across the board.

We think this DX version more than makes up for the previous console delays and will be jumping into Firegirl’s adventure at the earliest opportunity, all in order to review it and let you know how it plays on Xbox Series X|S.

We’re expecting to be taken on a bit of a ride through a roguelite platformer in which we get the opportunity to play as the titular Firegirl; a young fire rescue officer who is attempting to ensure her rundown fire station gets a breath of new life.

With her trusty axe and fire hose at the ready (the latter of which can be neatly used as a jetpack, because, why not!?), Firegirl will be tasked with responding to callouts from across the town, left with just three minutes to save the citizens who are caught up in trouble.

Putting out fires will be the name of the game, extinguising nasty pyro-monsters as you go, all before taking those civilians – and some cats – off to safety.

As a roguelite, expect to be treated to a ton of upgrades and tricky challenges as you go.

“With the launch of Firegirl: Hack ‘n Splash Rescue DX, we are excited to release the definitive edition on console with a simultaneous update on PC,” said Julien Ribassin, founder of Dejima. ”We always envisaged that Firegirl would find its way to a console audience and with Firegirl: Hack ‘n Splash Rescue DX, we are excited to launch today with a frantic, polished title that runs fantastically on consoles and PC”.

The key features as a whole will include:

  • Procedurally generated Blazes – Respond to new fires in procedurally generated levels across forests, lavish hotels, trains and apartment blocks.
  • Rescue Trapped Civilians – When Firegirl arrives on the scene, she only has a few minutes to save all the civilians caught in the blaze! Douse roaring flames, chop through obstacles and extinguish dastardly pyro-monsters, use your hose to boost your jumps and reach high places to rescue trapped survivors (and cats).
  • Rebuild the Firehouse – Hang out at the Firehouse between missions to upgrade your equipment and hire new staff. You’ll need all the help you can’t get to prepare for your next mission!

Keep an eye out for our review very soon. For now though you’ll be able to get access to the game for yourself by vitising the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (fully optimised and with Smart Delivery in the house), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. You’ll find it upgraded to the DX version on PC too. Expect to pay around £14.99 wherever you grab it from.
