Sharing updates to her £1.2 million Essex cottage, media personality Stacey Solomon has revealed her newest unusual yet brilliant DIY hack. The former X Factor star revealed her idea with her five million followers on Instagram.
It’s safe to say that Stacey knows a thing or two about DIY, having released a The Sunday Times number one bestselling book, Tap to Tidy: Organising, Crafting & Creating Happiness in a Messy World. In addition, she has her own DIY series with BBC, Sort Your Life Out, which follows herself and an expert team as they undertake home improvements by decluttering and transforming family homes.
Previously, Stacey has revealed an unusual DIY hack for a dazzling toilet brush involving some leftover bathroom tiles. However, this time around, the 32-year-old has found a brilliant use of using a £3 bin to turn into an expensive-looking copy.

Looking for a stone bin, which approximately costs around £20, Stacey thought that she could recreate something similar with an Amazon bought bin at a bargain price of just £3. Getting hands-on with the job, the star spray-painted the bin herself to polish off the desired effect.

The former I’m a Celeb star has been keeping her fanbase updated with her renovations to Pickle Cottage. She has previously vowed not to ‘rush’ the renovation.
Whilst her current attention is on a bargain dustbin, just a few days ago the mum of four revealed her Easter display at the cottage. In addition, she also showed fans an update with the pool, which she has previously labelled a ‘nightmare’ since it should have been completed last summer.
Using a stone-effect spray paint, Stacey showed fans the DIY hack on her Instagram stories. She captioned the photo: ‘Wanted a stone bin but they were like £20 so I bought a £3 one from Amazon and sprayed it with stone paint – I love it’.
Showing off the final effect, she captioned the photo: ‘The picture doesn’t do it justice – going to spray a darker stone on top tomorrow too’.
Stacey also added that her ‘shell sinks’ are arriving soon, which she has previously revealed that she’s very excited for.
The Essex cottage has been undergoing major renovations since the star and her family moved in in March 2021, including the master bathroom. Stacey has previously revealed that the bathroom, which is currently being renovated, is a ‘mermaid dream’.
Taking to Instagram, she said: ‘I can’t even tell you how excited I am’. The tiling in the bathroom is made up of small hexagon tiles that reminded Stacey of a mermaid’s scales and, therefore, inspired the entire theme.
