Now, Tripura will compensate for delays in wages under MGNREGA | #socialmedia

Agartala: The Tripura government will compensate for delays in paying wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (MGNREGA).

However, the government will recover the compensation from the salary of the concerned employee or officer responsible for the delay, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said.

Taking to social media, Deb said, “If the wages are not paid within 15 days, the workers will be paid interest at the rate of 0.05 per cent daily on the total wages from the 16th day as compensation. The government will recover the compensation money from the workers or officials for whom there would be a delay in payment of wages.”

He also said that the state government has decided to computerise the measurement of work, master roll, and list of wages. The district program coordinator or program officer will be responsible for implementing the computerised system.

The Tripura government’s decision intends to give more transparency in the payment of wages in MGNREGA and remove the allegations of delay in payment of workers across the state.
