NORTH PORT, Fla. — North Port officials are investigating a potential hack on the city’s network.

The city notified law enforcement and began an investigation after recently detecting “suspicious activity” within its network.

“We are currently investigating the situation to determine the nature and scope of the event. As our investigation into this matter is ongoing, we will continue to monitor our systems and work to resolve this matter safely and securely. We are currently working with third-party computer forensic specialists to determine the nature and scope of the event,” said Josh Taylor, the public information officer for the city.

While city officials work to investigate the incident, certain city systems and services may be offline.

When asked specifically when North Port officials learned of the potential hack and if any customers were impacted, Taylor replied: “Our investigation is ongoing at this time. We are currently working to determine the nature and scope of the event. We are working with a third-party computer forensic specialists to assist with assessing the security of the City’s network.”
