Lithuania v China – a David and Goliath battle over weaponisation of trade | #itsecurity | #infosec


Can a country duly recognised as independent by the entire world and a full member of the United Nations disappear overnight, by just pressing a button on a computer? Yes, if the person pressing that computer button happens to be a Chinese Customs official.

For earlier this month, China’s General Administration of Customs simply erased Lithuania from its register of countries, as though that nation never existed. The effect was that no trade whatsoever could be processed between China and that European state since it was just impossible to complete a Customs form.
