An ingenious hack can stop bags of salad from going bad too quickly in the fridge.

Sometimes it seems only a few days pass from purchasing the healthy option, you reach in to grab some leaves and only get a handful of slime. But there is a way you can keep it fresher for longer, just in time for the warm weather.

The answer is fairly simple. Simply place a paper towel inside the bag of lettuce. This will absorb the moisture and stop the lettuce leaves from becoming mouldy.

Food blogger Marie Saba has revealed the trick, The Mirror reports. She said: “When you get home with bagged greens, cut open the bag and put a paper towel inside. The paper towel will absorb moisture and keep the greens fresher longer.”

One fan wrote: “I’ve been doing this forever. I empty the bag of vegetables to check for any “yucky ones”, place a paper towel in the bottom of the bag then place the veggies back in the bag.”

Another added: “I agree I do the same exact thing and if I keep it in a container I always wrap it in a paper towel also but let’s not forget if you have mushrooms always take them out of the container and put them inside a paper bag.

“They last longer and it keeps them from getting glossy right away. The other thing I do is always take your celery out of the plastic bag wrap it in aluminium foil seal it and then put it in the crisper drawer, it lasts a really long time.”
