India’s telecoms standards body TSDSI says submitted 6G vision to ITU-R, Telecom News, ET Telecom | #cybersecurity | #cyberattack

NEW DELHI: The Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI) Wednesday said it submitted its 6G vision with the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) to drive the direction of 6G technologies as part of the vision for IMT-2030.

ITU-R has initiated work on developing a recommendation on a vision for IMT for 2030 and beyond and the draft document has been named “ITU-R M. [IMT.VISION 2030 and BEYOND]”.

TSDSI said that it has adopted a two-pronged strategy for its “6G” journey– to steer research in India to serve the goals and to continue engagement with global standard bodies for harmonization of efforts including ITU WP 5D.

TSDSI said that it began deliberations in this area through an introductory workshop on “Telecom Technologies for the next Decade” on January 29, 2020. “A Study on use cases, requirements and technologies towards 6G is currently in progress in the Networks Study Group of TSDSI,” it added.

TSDSI said that it observed that there will be a proliferation of network types such as public, private, enterprise/industrial wireless networks, application-specific specialized networks, IoT/sensor networks and they can be based on different radio access technologies.

“Interoperability of these technologies will be critical to enable a ubiquitous intelligent, connected/ compute environment – where diverse networks, processes, applications, use cases and organizations are connected,” it said in its submission for ‘6G Vision’.

Noting that accessible and affordable technologies can bridge the digital divide, it submitted future technologies must leverage composable networks and architectures to address issues of cost and affordability and added that spectrum sharing or simultaneous spectrum use technologies can lower the cost of initial spectrum purchase.

The telecom standards body further said that heterogeneous device types should attempt to lower the cost of ownership without compromising on the quality of high-end usage scenarios.

“Focus on energy efficiency to be able to work in power-starved scenarios / enhance lifespans of self-powered devices thus promoting affordability as well as sustainability,” TSDSI said.

Additionally, for distributed connectivity or compute environments, it underscored that there are opportunities to standardize and deploy “distributed, edge-native Artificial Intelligence (AI)” that can help in personalizing service without compromising privacy concerns.

As personal data protection is becoming a topic of concern and as nations, states, and enterprises are focusing on data protection and management, it is important that any future network or technology takes into account the intrinsic data hierarchies and management aspects, TSDSI submitted.

“Future communication / compute technologies will have to support such hierarchies. Provision for the data owners to access, modify, control data flows and dictate privacy norms and the nature of compute (algorithms) that can be run on such data will become important and technologies to support such demands will have to be accommodated,” it said in its submission.
