The data stolen from the HSE by Russian hackers has been recovered with the help of the United States.
In May the HSE was forced to shut down its computer system following the ransomware incident. It had been previously warned that its IT networks were vulnerable because of ageing technology which lacked software upgrades.
The department of justice in the United States released a copy of the stolen data to the garda national cybercrime bureau under a “mutual legal assistance treaty” which was processed by the American courts. It was then given to the HSE last Friday.
