With the latest release of Chrome, Google has added a few new experimental features to its popular browser for Windows. Chrome 96 now features a Windows 11 mode that allows you to use Windows 11 style menus where possible.

If you want to match your browser’s look to your desktop, here is how to enable Google Chrome’s experimental Windows 11 mode.

Activate Google Chrome’s Experimental Windows 11 Mode

The Windows 11 Style Menus feature is available on Chrome 96 and above versions. To check your Chrome version, click on Menu (three dots) in the top right corner and go to Help > About Google Chrome.

Chrome will check for and automatically install if new updates are available. After the update is installed, follow these steps to enable the experimental Windows 11 mode in Chrome.

  1. Launch Chrome, type chrome://flags in the address bar, and hit Enter. It will open the Experiments page.
  2. In the search box, type Windows 11.
  3. From the search results, click the drop-down for Windows 11 Style Menus and set it to Enabled.
  4. Click the Relaunch button to restart the browser.

You can try the new feature on Windows 10 as well. Open the Experiments page and select Enabled – All Windows Versions for Windows 11 Style Menus.

Currently, the design cues in Chrome are subtle, and you may not notice much difference apart from the round corners for the context menu, pop-up screens, etc.


However, on Edge, which is also based on the Chromium platform, Microsoft has updated it to use the Fluent Design elements, including the transparency effects. The new visual updates are set as a default with visible changes to the context menu, pop-up screen, and Settings menu.

That said, this feature is still a work in progress for the browser, and we are likely to see new changes in the upcoming updates by default.
