GTA 5 is heading to PS5 and Xbox Series X and S this week, with the next-gen version of the hit Rockstar Games classic adventure out on Tuesday March 15. The next-gen version of GTA 5 brings with it plenty of improvements like a new graphics mode with 4K visuals and 60FPS as well as HDR and ray-tracing options. The launch of GTA 5 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S will also see GTA Online for the first time ever as a standalone title.
If you’re a PS5 gamer you’ll be able to get GTA Online entirely for free for the first three months of its release.
While the GTA 5 Story mode for PS5, as well as GTA Online and GTA 5 Story Mode for Xbox Series X and S is available at a bargain price at the moment.
Pre-load and pre-orders were available in the run-up to the GTA 5 PS5 and Xbox Series X | S release date, with the unlock time for this edition of the game midnight local time on March 15.
And because of this regional release time some gamers have been taking advantage of a New Zealand trick to play GTA 5 earlier than expected.
As Rockstar Intel journalist Ben T highlighted on Twitter, if you change your console region to New Zealand you can play GTA 5 for the PS5 or Xbox Series X and S right now.
GTA 6 release date: When will the next Grand Theft Auto launch?
Ben T posted: “GTAV will release tomorrow for New Zealand gamers, but… if you want to change your console region here are the times for the unlock starting tomorrow so you can play a little earlier.
“Otherwise if you want to wait, it will unlock at your local midnight time on Tuesday.”
Explaining how to do this, the Rockstar Intel journalist wrote: “For PS5 users, you’ll need to set up a new PSN account with the country set in New Zealand, after it’s set up you’ll have to get the online standalone edition.
“If you’re on Xbox, all you have to do is change your console region to New Zealand. You don’t have to do anything else.”
For Xbox gamers it’s a relatively straightforward process to do this, while for PS5 gamers it will require a bit more legwork.
Alternatively, if this sounds like too much of a hassle for you then simply wait until it hits midnight where you are.
You can prepare for the GTA 5 PS5 and Xbox Series X and S release date and time by pre-ordering the game right now and pre-loading it.
