Georgetown police warn of missing person scam | #phishing | #scams


GEORGETOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) – Georgetown Police Department is warning the public about a scam using the police department’s phone number.

According to Georgetown police, the scammer is calling people and pretending to be someone from the department asking about a missing person. The scammer is said to be telling their victims that phone records indicate their number was the last called by the missing person.

Scammers are also asking for various amounts of money to help the family of the missing person.

Georgetown police have asked anyone receiving a call and doubting its legitimacy to call the non-emergency line at 502-863-7820.
