A cyberattack has forced Funky Pigeon, the online greetings card retailer, to stop accepting new orders on its website for the past four days.
The business, which has been owned by the listed stationery retailer WH Smith since 2010, said that no customer payment data had been put at risk due to the ransomware incident, but customers’ names, email addresses and postal addresses had been compromised.
Funky Pigeon said that since becoming aware of the incident on Thursday it had stopped taking new customer orders and launched an investigation with an external IT team.
Ransomware is used by hackers who use encryption to block access to a user’s files or databases until a sum of money is paid.
