A former pastor at a Baptist church in Hamilton is facing a child pornography charge.
Joshua David Conroy, 46, of Hamilton was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 17. He is charged with possession of child pornography.
Conroy is a former pastor of Elliott Heights Baptist Church on Fennell Avenue East, just west of Mountain Brow Boulevard.
Hamilton police said the investigation began in August 2021 when they received a cybertip from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.
During the investigation police seized computer devices that were examined.
Conroy had stopped working at the church before the alleged incident.
“As a church, we are deeply disturbed by the charges laid against our former associate pastor, Joshua Conroy,” board chair John Robinson said in a brief statement to The Spectator on behalf of Elliott Heights Baptist Church.
He said the church cannot comment more on the advice of its legal counsel.
“I can say that our prayers are with all those affected by this.”
Hamilton police said the investigation is ongoing.
