A former Dounreay worker has set up a new mortgage and protection adviser service from her home at Barrock.
Diane Malcolm is part of Consumer Choice Financial Services (CCFS), affiliated with the Primis Mortgage Network, which means she has access to more than 80 lenders and their products.
The new service comes after Diane had a stint working with her cousin Yvonne Fitzgerald, who runs a property agency based in Thurso.
“I knew I wanted a role where I worked with people to help them in some capacity – I just wasn’t sure what,” Diane explained. “But in December 2019 I went to help my cousin, Yvonne Fitzgerald, who owns Yvonne Fitzgerald Properties, with the administration of her office.
“It was meant to be temporary and part-time but I ended up nearly full-time with her until the last Covid lockdown.
“Yvonne had already identified that there was a lack of local mortgage advisers, made worse by all the bank closures, and thought that this would be a good fit for me, skills and personality-wise. So while working for her I started studying for my CeMAP [Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice] and passed the final exam at the end of April.”
Having gained the CeMAP qualification, Diane joined CCFS to cover the north Highlands.
“I moved into this role after 27 years at Dounreay in various jobs, eventually being made redundant from the IT change manager position there within Computer Sciences Services – the company that provided IT support and services for Dounreay,” she said.
CCFS is described as a select team of brokers across Scotland offering a range of financial services such as first-time buyer mortgages, remortgages, buy-to-let mortgages and protection insurances.
Diane added: “Primis is a multi-award winning mortgage network that excels in supporting its advisers by providing a comprehensive panel of not only mortgage lenders but also protection and general insurance providers. Through CCFS and the Primis Mortgage Network I have access to an unrivalled depth of knowledge and range of mortgage and protection products.”
