ECPD Report An Increase Of Social Media Scams | #socialmedia

June 29, 2022

By Kacey Meza

In a Facebook post, the Elk City Police Department has reported that there is a worrying increase in social media scams as of late. Many of the reports have been investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department and the results of the investigations have shown that the suspects are overseas.

ECPD asks that you don’t send any personal information or photographs to anyone over electronics, especially to people that you don’t know or haven’t met in person. Most of the time those people are either impostors or using a hacked account.

Police say that if you take these steps, you could prevent embarrassment or being harassed by subjects trying to acquire money from you.
