Most services at the DeKalb County Clerk and Recorder’s Office are still available despite a ransomware attack on the county on Monday.
Clerk Doug Johnson says his office was able to pivot using a laptop not connected to the county’s system. The county’s servers were locked up by the ransomware attack.
Johnson says people can still come in to use the clerk’s services.
Johnson also says people’s personal information is safe, although the attack is causing a lot of headaches for county offices.
Johnson says he’s met with has staff and has some ideas on how to better protect the clerk’s office moving forward. He thinks that a cyber attack on the county wasn’t a matter of if, but of when. Johnson calls the attack a hiccup that won’t stop the county from functioning.
