One of Iranian largest steel companies announced on Monday that it had been forced to suspend production due to a cyberattack, which appears to be one of the largest such attacks on the country’s critical industrial sector in recent memory.

The state-owned Khuzestan Steel Company announced in a statement that experts concluded the company was unable to continue operations “due to technical issues and would be closed till further notice” as a result of “cyberattacks.” The organization’s website appeared to be down.

A local news station reported that the attack did not cause any structural damage to the steel mill because the factory was out of commission at the time due to a power outage.

The company did not assign blame to a particular group for the hack, which is merely the most recent instance of an attack against the country’s services in recent weeks.

Iran has previously accused the United States and Israel of launching cyberattacks against its infrastructure and crippling it.

Along with two other large state-owned companies, Khuzestan Steel Company, situated in Ahvaz in southwestern Iran, holds a monopoly on steel manufacturing in Iran.

Before the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, the company’s production lines were supplied by German, Italian, and Japanese industries for decades.
