The award is given for “significant contribution to the field of computer and communication security through fostering research and development activities, educating students or providing professional services such as the running of professional societies and conferences,” according to SIGSAC’s website. The organization recognized Jaeger for his ongoing contributions to the field, and in particular for “leadership in the ACM SIGSAC community and exemplary contributions to security research and education, including the book ‘Operating Systems Security,’ and advances in software analysis and trusted computing bases.”
“I am truly honored by this award because it recognizes a combination of service to the computer and network security community, contributions to security education and research contributions that lead to practical impacts,” Jaeger said.
Jaeger’s primary research interests are systems and software security. He has published more than 150 research papers and the textbook Operating Systems Security, which has been used at universities worldwide, and has made significant contributions to the Linux community to improve system security.
Jaeger is currently the consortium program manager for the Army Research Lab’s Cybersecurity Collaborative Research Alliance, which includes six academic institutions and two industrial partners. He serves as an executive committee member as a past chair — from 2013-17 — of SIGSAC. He also serves as the steering committee chair and general chair of the Network and Distributed System Security Symposium, the associate editor of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Security and Privacy Magazine, editorial board member of the Communications of the ACM and as an academic advisory board member of the United Kingdom’s Cyber Body of Knowledge project.
