KOZHIKODE: A team of Tamil Nadu police officers probing the case of alleged sexual assault of a 40-year-old woman from Kannur by unidentified persons at Palani recorded the statements of the woman and her husband at Thalassery in Kannur on Tuesday.
The nine-member team, including Dindigul additional SP P Chandran and Palani inspector of police P Kavitha, recorded the statements of the couple at the office of the Thalassery assistant commissioner for six hours. The couple who originally hails from TN has been staying in Thalassery for past three months.
According to the complaint, the incident had happened on June 19 when the woman along with her husband had gone to Palani to offer prayers at the Lord Muruga temple. The woman’s complaint said that she was sexually assaulted by a three-member gang who forcibly took her to a nearby lodge when her husband had gone to buy food in the evening. The woman’s husband had alleged that though he had reported about the incident at the police station there, no action was taken. The woman who had been under treatment at the government medical college hospital and Thalassery government hospital has now been discharged.
Kannur district police chief R Ilango said that the details collected by Kerala police and the 164 CrPC statement of the woman will be handed over to TN police. Sources said the TN probe team has found some contradictions in the statements given by the couple
