On Feb. 2, the 1-month old infant was admitted to a hospital with severe injuries. An investigation was conducted by San Bernardino sheriff’s Crime Against Children Detail after doctors determined the injuries to be non-accidental and consistent with child abuse.
Sydney Strauss-Cahill,19, and Gabriel Espinoza, 26, are suspected of causing the injuries to the victim.
Strauss-Cahill was arrested the on Wednesday, Feb. 2, according to Gloria Huerta, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s department. Espinoza was arrested on Friday, Feb. 11, and booked into the Central Detention Center.
Strauss-Cahill and Espinoza are being held on suspicion of mayhem and willful cruelty to a child, each with a bail set at $500,000.
The child remained in the hospital last Friday where he was still being treated for injuries, Huerta said.
