Nothing CEO Carl Pei’s Twitter account hacked

Carl Pei’s Nothing is gearing up to launch its first product later this year. Ahead of the product unveiling, Pei’s Twitter account was hacked. Hackers impersonating as Pei tweeted that Nothing is launching its first project in the Crypto space.

The tweet stated that Nothing is launching new crypto called NothingCoin. It is based on Ethereum (ETH) ERC 20-chain. It also mentioned an address where users could send their ETH.

The tweet was deleted minutes after it was posted. Pei confirmed with Engadget Senior Editor Richard Lai that the fake tweet was posted after his account was hacked. We advise our readers to not send their ETH to the mentioned address.

This is the second such event wherein a notable Twitter account was hacked to post a crypto scam. Last year, several high-profile Twitter accounts were hacked – including those of the now-US President Joe Biden, Kim Kardashian, former US President Barack Obama, billionaire Elon Musk and Kanye West, among others — used to solicit digital currency.

Recently, Realme India’s support team’s account was briefly hacked. The hackers used the account to run a cryptocurrency scam by changing the Realme Twitter handle to Tesla and started replying to Elon Musk’s tweets. The account was restored within 15 minutes and handed over to the original owners.
