Banks raise awareness about online scams | #socialmedia

Doha: Technology advancement has led to increase in online scams regionally and globally. Considering these threats, banks in Qatar have reminded its customers, through their social media campaign, to be vigilant from such fraudulent messages.

“Beware of fraud! Don’t share personal or confidential information like your account number, CVV2 code, OTP (One Time Password) or password with others,” Masraf Al Rayan said on its official twitter handle, yesterday. A

nother tweet by the bank said, “Make sure your password is a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. Please note that we will never call, text or e-mail you requesting for your personal account information”.
Al Khalij Commercial Bank (al khaliji) has also urged its customers to be cautious while doing online transactions.

“Ensure the safety of your online purchases and make sure to never share your financial information with anyone via email or Whatsapp,” al khaliji said in a tweet.

Commercial Bank said in a statement sent through an email to its customers that it never asks for its customers’ OTP via email, over the phone, or through an SMS. “OTPs are used to confirm your identity during online payments, as OTPs might be requested when making online payments, but never when receiving payments,” it said. 

Another statement of the bank about  ‘Don’t share your personal information with anyone’ said “Are you receiving phone calls from your bank or from a governmental entity asking for your QID number? It is definitely a scam call. The caller will try to pressure you to share your personal information with them. Be aware and do not share any personal information.”
