Anti-government activists to protest in Yerevan, Armenia, July 15; increased security, localized disruptions likely; clashes possible.

Opposition activists plan to protest in central Yerevan July 15. Activists are calling for the government’s resignation over its handling of ongoing peace negotiations with Azerbaijan relating to the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh territory. Participants will gather at France Square from 19:30; attendance could reach into the thousands of people.

Additional police will deploy to monitor the action. Large crowds and associated security measures, including road closures and movement restrictions, will likely result in localized business and transport disruptions. Isolated clashes between activists and security services cannot be ruled out; police could be quick to arrest disobedient protesters.

Avoid the protest as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Check for disruptions before beginning journeys and allow extra time for travel in the affected area the evening of July 15.
