The iPhone 13 Pro Max was launched along with several other iPhone 13 devices in September 2021 and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was launched in February 2022. This is a guide that compares the iPhone 13 Pro Max against the Galaxy S22 Ultra to help you decide which one to buy.

Display

iPhone 13 Pro Max: 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion. ProMotion means that the iPhone 13 Pro displays are capable of dynamically switching between faster refresh rates up to 120Hz and slower refresh rates down to 24Hz or 10Hz. 

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 6.8-inch edge Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2x Infinity-O display. And it is HDR10+ certified and has a 120Hz refresh rate.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max features a resolution of 2778 x 1284 pixels at 458 ppi. And the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a resolution of 3088×1440 at 500 ppi.

iPhone 13 Pro Max:

Front – The front camera on the iPhone 13 Pro Max is 12-megapixel with an f/2.2 aperture which has Retina Flash, Smart HDR 4 for photos, Portrait mode, and Portrait Lightning with 6 effects. Plus it has ProRes video recording up to 4K at 30 fps (1080p at 30 fps for 128GB capacity).

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

The rear camera on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is a quad system. The four cameras include an Ultra Wide, a wide-angle, and two telephoto cameras:

1.) 12-megapixel Ultra Wide camera with f/2.2 aperture

2.) A whopping 108-megapixel wide-angle camera with f/1.8 aperture 

3.) 10-megapixel telephoto camera with f/4.9 aperture

4.) 10-megapixel telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture

In terms of zoom, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has 3x and 10x dual optical zoom and Super Resolution Zoom of up to 100x. Plus the S22 Ultra has a laser AF sensor – which is used to enhance the AF performance in close range and low light environments. 

For video recording, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has 8K video recording at 24 fps (7680×4320); 4K UHD video recording at 60 fps (3840×2160); 1080p FHD video recording at 60 fps (1920×1080); and 720p HD video recording at 30 fps (1280×720).

The front camera on the Galaxy S22 Ultra is a 40-megapixel with a pixel size of 0.7μm (10MP 1.4μm) and an f/2.2 aperture

IP Rating

The iPhone 13 Pro Max has Dual SIM (nano-SIM and eSIM) and Dual eSIM support. And it is not compatible with existing micro-SIM cards.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra also has dual SIM support as well. But the availability of dual SIM may vary depending on the country or carrier.
