Google should release an Android version update every two or three years instead of every year, and focus on getting security updates for everyone

U16019

That’s exactly very Google-y thing that happens. Ugh. SMH

It changes everything. People run their entire lives on smartphones yet run years old versions of operating systems. Thinking app and component updates can fix security issues when most companies skip even monthly security updates issued by Google while phones are allegedly still fully supported, you know there’s a huge problem. And just because surveys say Android is safer OS choice, they are referring to a fully updated latest version, not Android 9 from almost 4 years ago… So, yeah, it changes A LOT actually, but people here keep perpetuating this backwards idea that it’s all great if you run outdated OS. It works, but it’s old and full of security holes. It’s why I don’t like it and until Google changes how components of system are updated on a much lower level without depending on lazy incompetent phone vendors.

This is a big reason why I’ll probably only buy “Pixel a” phones from here on. Personally, I do care about getting the current versions of Android in a timely manner. Manufacturers don’t prioritize updating because it doesn’t make them any additional money.

I wish I still could use iOS12.

My device was bug free.

Only advantage of updating was to keep using all apps. Nothing more.

I actually hate updating my firmware. I get a worse experience from updates. Battery life gets worse. Memory leaks. Some older apps gets broken.

My iPhone SE1 got updated to iOS 15.1. Battery life is absolutely atrocious. Was already getting bad by 14. I hate how the url bar is on the bottom. Kept my Essential Phone and Pixel 3 on Pie with no plans ever updating them. Nova has this lag each time I go home by Android 10.

I hope certain Android versions can last as long as Windows XP. Can still be used 10+ years. But most OEMs use sealed batteries and software updates for planned obsolescence for us to keep buying new phones. In 5 years, we can no longer use our phones because apps needs a certain version requirement for it. My LG G5 is on Nougat and can no longer download from the Play Store.

Thank goodness Android is still more versatile than iOS. Older apks can still work on older firmware. Not all but some. Heck, my Nexus 4 on KitKat could still run Mario Kart: World Tour. While iOS would need firmware from only 2-3 years ago to run a game like that. This is why I can’t stand iOS and all their updates. More updates means shorter lifespan using those apps.
