AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X CPU Just $116 at Newegg | #linux | #linuxsecurity

Did you ever want a chance to own one of AMD’s Threadripper CPUs, but never could quite stomach the workstation processor’s premium pricing? Well then you’re in luck, as today Newegg is putting the original Threadripper on a deep discount.

In one of the most notable CPU discounts we’ve come across all year, AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X is currently available for just $116 at Newegg as part of a limited promotion. The price is marked down to $194 but promo code 83AGLTD36 will take an additional 40% off. It’s not clear for how long this offer will be made available.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X: was $205, now $116 at Newegg

AMD’s OG Threadripper CPU lineup was first released back in 2017. Based on the original Zen (1) CPU architecture, the CPU performance of the 8 core/16 thread 1900X admittedly isn’t much to write home about in 2021. But at $116, it’s incredibly cheap for an 8 core x86 CPU right now

More interesting, however, is that this is the lowest we’ve seen an high-end desktop/workstation processor priced in quite some time, which is certain to be of interest to system builders who need a lot of I/O on the cheap. First-generation Threadrippers offer 64 lanes of PCIe 3.0 and 4 channels of DDR4, so for memory bandwidth or PCIe bandwidth-bound workloads, the 1900X is more capable than even the latest generation of desktop processors. Do note, however, that this processor only works with sTR4 motherboards.
