On the Internet, text documents have become more often used to hack computers. According to BleepingComputer, pdf files are used to spread viruses.
In a report by cybersecurity firm HP Wolf Security, researchers described how hackers with their help have learned to gain access to practically any computer.
According to the document, an email with an immediate payment to the victim’s name. A pdf file is attached to the letter. Opening it on a computer allows hackers to remotely launch malware using a link within a document.
It is noted that an attempt to open a pdf through Adobe Reader will instruct the user to use Microsoft Word text editor , as it contains a docx file. Cybercriminals were able to hide the virus for protection systems — the open document will be listed as verified.
Hackers use the CVE-2017-11882 vulnerability, which was fixed in November 2017 , in their attacks. Experts stated that many users have not downloaded the required update.
