🌱 UC Phishing Scams + Health Systems Mum On Vaccine Mandates | #phishing | #scams

Happy Saturday, Cincinnati! Let’s get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.

First, today’s weather:

Snow showers in the morning. High: 33 Low: 17.

Here are the top three stories today in Cincinnati:

  1. The University of Cincinnati (UC) has become the latest target of online phishing scams. Students have reported receiving scam emails centered around applying for tax benefits, job applications, and bitcoin account reports. The scheme has even affected the official UC Instagram account, with a cryptic post on its story encouraging viewers to “increase [their] money” by DMing the listed contact β€” a “Crypto Trader” and “Professional Market Analyst” not affiliated with the university. (The News Record)
  2. The Cincinnati Police Department is searching for a man wanted for burglary and breaking/entering in the Over-the-Rhine area. According to police, Raymond Lee Stevens entered a residence on two separate occasions and took over $6,500 worth of property. Anyone with information on Stevens’ whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040. (WLWT Cincinnati)
  3. After a U.S. Supreme Court ruling upheld vaccine mandates for Medicare- and Medicaid-funded health systems, healthcare workers across Cincinnati are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by Feb. 14. Though regional health systems are stating they will follow the mandate, they have said little about specific statistics β€” including how many employees are fully vaccinated, and how many are being let go after not meeting the mandate β€” as the deadline approaches. Local hospitals are following the lead of the Ohio state hospital association in keeping mum on the subject. (The Cincinnati Enquirer)
